Dominica’s Prime Minister Announces New Targets For 2022

Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica Honourable Roosevelt Skerrit announced the government’s goals for 2022 at a ceremony in honor of the country’s independence. He also invited Dominicans from all over the world to join in building a dynamic Dominica.

“We are a unique country in several respects, with strong, stable leadership and a welcoming people,” said the Prime Minister. “As we continue to build a resilient and Dynamic Dominica, this Government is very encouraged by the level of interest being shown by individuals and companies looking for investment opportunities.”

As for the plans, they can be divided into several parts:

Health:

  • Six new health and wellness centers to open by the first quarter of 2022 (six centers have already started operating this year)
  • In the first quarter of next year, it is planned to equip the hospital Marigot with furniture and equipment.

Education:

  • 8000 laptops will be distributed to students for successful online learning (over 3000 laptops have already been distributed)
  • The construction of six schools will begin in the new year. The new Mahaut primary school will be completed in the first quarter of 2022.

Tourism:

  • In December 2021, a contract will be signed for the construction of an international airport, which will create additional jobs
  • American Airlines increases flights to Dominica up to three times a week from January 5
  • A safe corridor was created to allow Dominica to receive cruise ships

Climate-resistant infrastructure:

  • Restoration of the East Coast road has begun at a cost of $126 million
  • Completion of the Hillsborough Bridge at Layou by January 2022
  • Drilling contractor for the geothermal power plant was selected
  • By December 2022, it is planned to complete the repair of the Layou East Road

Many of these projects were sponsored by the Dominica Citizenship by Investment (CBI) program. This program allows foreign investors and their families to obtain Dominica citizenship and passport in return for investment.

Dominica’s CBI program was voted Best Worldwide by Financial Times PWM Magazine this year. Investors can donate to a government fund or buy real estate.
