Dominica and Switzerland Sign Agreement to Achieve the Goals of the Paris Climate Agreement

In Scotland, at the United Nations climate conference, the Commonwealth of Dominica signed a bilateral agreement with Switzerland. Under this agreement, Dominica can sell its carbon credits in order for Switzerland to meet its emission obligations under the Paris Agreement.

Switzerland will finance the electrification of Dominica’s transport, as well as a geothermal power plant, which will be completed in 2023. Thanks to the power plant, Dominica will reduce its dependence on fossil fuels and will be able to provide electricity to the French islands of Guadeloupe and Martinique.

Dominica is moving confidently towards the promise of Prime Minister, Dr. the Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit: to become the world’s first climate-resilient country in the UN. A significant amount of funding comes from the Citizenship by Investment program, which since 2018 has sponsored large projects aimed at improving the quality of life of Dominicans: hospitals, schools, homes.

Dominica’s Citizenship by Investment Program was ranked #1 of all investment programs by the Financial Times PWM Magazine. With its help, thousands of foreigners obtained citizenship of the Caribbean country, making a contribution to the economy.
