The Community Malta Agency has updated the list of countries whose citizens can apply for citizenship under the Maltese Exceptional Investor Naturalization (MEIN) procedures.

Malta is a country participating in the US Visa Waiver Program.

When Trump signed the US “travel ban”, countries that were listed on this list were unable to apply for any Maltese investment migration rules, such as the Maltese Exceptional Investor Naturalization (MEIN) procedures or the Malta Residence and Visa Program rules…

On January 20, after taking office as President, Biden signed 17 memoranda of decrees and proclamations, including lifting the travel ban.

That is, after updating the rules and consulting with the Sanctions Monitoring Board, Malta has changed the list of countries that can apply for investment migration. The following countries can now do this:

  • Libya
  • Nigeria
  • Chad
  • Eritrea
  • Tanzania
  • Myanmar
  • Kyrgyzstan

Countries that cannot apply for the Maltese Exceptional Investor Naturalization (MEIN) procedure are as follows:

  • Afghanistan
  • North Korea
  • Iran
  • The Democratic Republic of the Congo
  • Somalia
  • South Sudan
  • Sudan
  • Syria
  • Yemen
  • Venezuela
