The Commonwealth of Dominica will replace the regular passport with an e-passport by August 30, 2022. The e-passport will have a special microchip to authenticate the identity, and the design will contain the flora and fauna of the country.
According to Minister for National Security and Home Affairs, Rayburn Blackmoore, the ministry has developed special plans to guide the Dominicans during the transition period.
Dominica citizens who live abroad can obtain their passports through consulates or at special filing offices that will open in New York, the United Arab Emirates, and London. Mobile offices will also be opened in Canada, Texas, Florida, and some Caribbean countries.
The decision to adopt an ePassport was made due to a changing world and the need for “safer and more secure systems…there’s also a universal demand for more efficient and secure travel documents that are acceptable by all and that are in keeping with relevant international standards and protocols,” said Minister Blackmoore.
To date, 7,000 e-passports have been issued.
A foreign investor can become a citizen of Dominica by passing due diligence and investing in the country. Investments can be made in an Economic Diversification Fund or Real Estate.
